I never took mine apart, but this does sound like my problem- a big bang, some smoke and vital fluids all over the road. My stilo was at about 30k when the first gearbox problem happened, about 35k when it exploded and the second box lasted all of 3 months before the 3rd went in. Touch wood I have done 2k on this box and the symptoms havent returned. Sorry to hear you're experiencing difficulties with your 1.8 16v. First off in relation to your question regarding an ECU fault; simple answer is no. I highly doubt that your 1.8 has suffered the same ECU heat issues as the 1.6s do. If memory serves your ECU for the 1.8 should be mounted on the bulkhead somewhere kind of next to the throttle body. 2) Does my Fiat Stilo 1.6 16V have an EGR Valve (Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve)?? 3) Finally, if the answers to questions 1 and 2 are No and No then are these PCV &/Or EGR Valves only on bigger engines such as V6 and V8's? If you want an insight into my problem.. it involves a "Sucking Exhaust instead of Blowing Exhaust, Engine stalling if A flyhweel locking tool (shown 2a) simply stops the engine rotating. Hi ive just bought my 02 plate 1.6 stilo but have a question, After the cars been run from approx 5mins (till its warm) theres a loud tapping noise. Engine is silent when cold but slightly noisey/tappety when warm. Anyone come across this? Thanks Thdd.
